Beth Moore Bible Study – Day 6 – God can Embolden Us!

beth_moore_bible_study_day_6Well the tides seem to be turning. Yesterday I got my internet back up to speed and today I got my computer fixed! Oh happy, happy Day!

Truthfully what I think has turned things around is that I started a 30 Rosary novena. Sometimes you just have to pull out the big guns as Padre Pio used to say. It was definitely starting to look like working with squirt guns was not going to fight the enemy.

Tuesday I went to Bible study at Oakville and it was a great session. I decided it’s time to be a bit more bold with my faith. Not just for other people’s sake but for my own. When I am wishy-washy with living and walking with Jesus I become dull and apathetic. When I decide it’s time to be gung-ho and let’s go! Life gets much more exciting.

On Wednesday I went to a meeting at St. Mary’s with a small group of women who are planning our next Women’s Faith event. It will be just an evening of sharing and getting to know each other. Our last one was such a success that we are hoping it will continue to grow and be an ongoing thing.

Hope you have a wonderful day and if things are going topsy-turvy remember . . . Prayer Changes Things!

Just a small note as I get ready to go work at Oakville Church.

Looks like a beautiful day! I planted my petunias too early I think (found out after I had planted them of course, that it’s better to wait till May!) so I have been covering them at night with black plastic garbage bags. I can see the difference already from having a warm night versus a cold one. Yesterday when I uncovered them instead of looking all flat and spread out like they were freezing to death they were high and lifted up and ready to dance into bloom. I almost felt like they were thanking me for my extra trouble to keep them warm.

On Monday I went to the eye doctor and got it verified that I indeed have Shingles in my right eye. I am keeping on with the same medication which I started on Friday. So far it is working amazingly well. I am much improved! For the most part there is very little pain either so thanks to everyone’s prayers on that score! I am being super, duper vigilant to take the medicine every five and six hours even though it means a rather jumbled up sleep night – but it sure beats it getting worse!

I’m still thinking Retreat Thoughts

Because winter time is the perfect time to think of summer. What first begins as just talk can shape right up into reality if we keep the conversation going.

So just for interests sake . . . lets say we got four people interested we could find a rental home like this  for $125-$200 a night (September the rates are lower but we could decide what dates work best for people). If we spent four days each person’s cost would be $32 – $50 a night. Plus food of course. We would have to plan our meals and maybe eat out once or twice for fun.

If we got 19 people (why not dream) we could rent this place Oceanfront W/ Super Views . It would cost each person $25.00 a day for lodging if we had that many people.

Well do keep thinking about it. We could start saving up our quarters now and break open the piggy bank in late summer or early fall.

Happy and Blessed New Year 2014!

Today was a good day. I went to work at Oakville because I was behind in a lot of things and it seemed as good a way as any to start the New Year. I was actually able to get everything caught up so that felt good.

I have added a new category of eCards today. Cats & Kittens.

I found a new book to read on my Kindle. I like to download books from the local library and while I was searching  for something with a bit of Catholic to it – I decided to search using just the word “Catholic.” I didn’t expect to find any books but surprisingly I did. I am now reading a book called, In Due Season: A Catholic Life by Paul Wilkes. So far it is very good and I am loving it. I’m only on chapter 4 but I expect I will like it all the way through.

Pudge wants his evening snack but I am making him wait 15 more minutes. I told him when he wanted to eat at 4:00 that he was going to want his night snack earlier! I told him and I was right. I’m holding out for 12 more minutes.

I am also reading a children’s book called, The Book of Story Beginnings by Kristin Kladstrup.  Just a fun book. I like to read different kinds of books at the same time.

And if you really want to know, I am also reading, What the Plus! by Guy Kawasaki – which is about Google+. I am praying about taking an online Google+ boot camp course. I think, I hope, I pray it will be good.

AND HERE’S A QUESTION FOR YOU! I am wondering if any of you would like to get together for a retreat week at the Oregon shore sometime in the summer?

The theme would be of course, Joy in Jesus – living a life of praise, trust and hope. What comes to mind is that depending on how many (if any) are interested – I would rent a beach house and we would have a fun week of faith sharing, life sharing and listening to God and each other and just enjoy the ocean, read and rest. This is just a crazy thought that comes to mind. It would be a sort of co-op faith week. Split expenses so we could keep it low cost. If enough people were interested maybe I could even ask a priest friend I know to give some retreat talks.

And of course it doesn’t have to be in Oregon. We could do this anywhere in the country. Wouldn’t it be fun to get together? Maybe every year in a different place? Anyway this is all middle of the winter thinking of what do in the Spring or Summer thinking. Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Whooops! Two minutes past Pudges snack time!

Today I had a nice surprise. A friend that I met at the Bible study I was going to called and asked if I would like to go to a movie sometime. There was one playing in Corvallis that she wanted to see. Her  daughter had told her about it and was unable to take her but suggested she call and see if I wanted to go. So she called, and I thought it was a great idea and we went and enjoyed it very much! The movie was, “Saving Mr. Banks ” the story of the making of the movie Mary Poppins. If you get a chance to see it I’m sure you would like it. Walt Disney is played by Tom Hanks.

Pudge is bugging me – like he should be having another treat. Let me tell you he has already gotten over his quota for the day. There is something about that dog that reminds me a lot of me!

Only two more days of 2013 – very hard to believe. This last month I concentrated as much as possible on not worrying about anything but “loving Jesus.” I can hardly explain what a difference this month has been for me by doing that. Most amazing. Every day I try to remember to ask Mary to help me love her Son. That is the only thing differently I have done. Just ask Mary to help me love her Son.

I haven’t prayed extra prayers or done anything different except when I ask Mary to help me love her Son she has showed me how much her Son loves me! Just as I am. Not telling me to do more or be more. But every day I have become more and more aware of God’s love for me in so many ways. Now with the start of the new year that is going to be my focus for the year – keep asking Mary to help me love her Son.

One thought that has been coming to mind the last couple of days is this. “What if I put as much energy into living a life of  “Joy in Jesus,” as other people do in their pursuit of other things. What if I didn’t care if people thought me but only cared about what Jesus thought of me. Wouldn’t that be different?

Maybe not so different from going into a Monastery and living 28 years there but still there is always a holding back, a not giving all to the cause because “whatever would people think?” One thing that going to Guest House did for me was to reveal how much of a “people pleaser” I am. It’s in the very fiber of who I am. That is why I pray to Mary to help me to love her Son because on my own I get caught up in being respectable. You know, holy and all that but not really crazy holy more like the “respectable holy.”

And not that there is a lot of me that is not holy at all – not going into that – but the essence of life as I see it today, is not what we do for God – but that we just become aware of what God is doing for us, that no matter what happens God is loving us and doing everything every single day to make us happy. That’s it. God wants our happiness more than we want it ourselves.

December 17:

O Wisdom of our God Most High,
guiding creation with power and love:
come to teach us the path of knowledge!

Today is the first of the O Antiphons – the brief prayer recited before the Magnificat at Evening Prayer during the 7 days before Christmas. It’s getting close.

I am reading an “okay” book. It’s a murder mystery and I’m not that much into the mood for that. Wish I had a super, delicious book to read. I went to the library and got four books but somehow when I got home none of them seemed to be what I really wanted. Maybe I need something Christmasy.

One of these days I am really, really going to have to eat better. Like cut down on sugar. These are bad days for that though. 🙂 Oh sigh.
